Rebounder picks 5 movies to pair with ‘Downtown People’

Indie rock band Rebounder on the movies that complement their debut album.

In Pairings, artists and creators pick the movies that complement their latest work.

Rebounder is the indie rock band of Dylan and Noah Chenfeld. Their debut album Downtown People releases on November 6 wherever you get your music!

We asked the band to pick a few movies that pair well with Downtown People. Here’s what they wrote about them.

Marty Supreme

Dylan got approached on the street by a casting director to be an extra in this one. If you look closely, you’ll see him in the first two minutes of the movie. I’ve also done extra work, and our mutual pantomiming experience directly inspired the song “Background Action”.

After Hours

This movie is like a bad dream but somehow you don’t want it to end. It so perfectly captures how one night in New York City can feel like a lifetime. It’s like the quest to make a three-minute song contain multitudes.

The Devil Wears Prada

We sometimes score music for runway shows, and there’s even a song on the record called “It’s Always Fashion Week”. I like how Andy is an outsider at times. A song like “Downtown People” blurs the line between observer and participant. Does the singer want to be a ‘downtown’ person, or are they having a laugh at the rat race?

Stranger Than Paradise

A masterclass in “less is more”, a philosophy we’re always chasing in the studio, particularly on this record. We’ve played in Ohio a lot, so I related to the scenes where they drive from New York to Cleveland on what seems like an endless highway.

Three Days of the Condor

We have a framed poster of this movie in our studio. Our friend recently stopped by and commented how there’s nothing better than ’70s spy thriller movies, which have a certain eeriness that can’t be replicated in movies today. Three Days inspires us on a daily basis in our studio as a reminder to keep things chic and mysterious.
